Daken: War is the ultimate game.  And how the pieces fall makes kings and slaves.

If there is one thing to take away from this issue is that Daken is a real bastard.  While his mutant ability to emit pheromones certainly helps him manipulate people I get the feeling he does not need it.  On the eve of the great siege of Asgard Daken cruelly pretends to help a nervous soldier and beats him senseless to prevent him from entering the battle.  In his own way he views it as “helping” the soldier.  His superiority complex and manipulative demeanor not only irritates anyone in his vicinity but also seems to have caught the attention of the Asgardian Fates.  They are certain he can bring about Ragnarok or the death of all the Norse gods.

I am not sure if it is Way or Liu but the talkative issues are far more entertaining than any of the all out action issues.  Not to mention the dialogue is a lot better.  The writers pick back up with the Daken and Hawkeye interaction that is not only entertaining but down right hostile.  Is Daken really hitting a nerve or is Hawkeye overcompensating?  Either way this issue gives us the best of both worlds as it begins with the exposition and ends with the action.  The invasion of Asgard is costing both sides heavy casualties as the battlefield lays littered with bodies and Daken feels right at home.

This issue can potentially be the perfect balance of all the previous Dark Wolverine issues.  Maybe Daken will get his wish and become a king amongst men only to realize it is not what he wants.  If there is one thing that may take away from the issue is its relevance.  The shock ending reeks of a possible future that is going to be rewound back and offer Daken a different path.  Hopefully I am wrong with that one and this series can justify its relation to Siege.  If the story therein is true then this may be one of the most important issues of Siege...but I doubt it.
