Spider-Man: The Complete Season 5

Review by Antony Ellis

Rating: PG

RRP: £19.99

You were either an X-Men: The Animated Series kid, or a Spider-Man: The Animated Series kid when growing up in the nineties and I was the former, so it was a somewhat new experience to be crossing lines and reviewing Spidey's animated adventures.

Concluding the selection of classic Marvel series out on DVD in the UK this October is Spider-Man (1994): The Complete Season Five, which is the concluding season of the longest running Spider-Man animated series.

The series is a must for fans of Spider-Man and the action and adventure kicks off from the very first episode when our hero's wedding is hijacked by some villains who definately were not on the guest list!  Unlike the earlier Spider-Man series, plot threads are left dangling and the storylines are weaved throughout the episodes, with some storylines almost running feature length with multiple parts.  These are not one and dones like Jess's Spider-Man series!

The animation still holds up, although the computer animated swinging, while great at the time, looks a bit dated now.  However, as Andy mentioned in his review, on a high def TV with upscaling, it might not look just how you remembered it but it's great to look back all the same.

Spider-Man (1994) is the most expensive of the three DVDs reviewed but it is perhaps the most sophisticated storywise and you're getting more pow for your pound with almost four and a half hours of classic Saturday morning animated action.  Plus, shop around and you'll be able to find a great deal on these discs.

Rating: 7 out of 10 (Above Average)

That's funny. I just found out about this season and how I had completely missed it back then. And dammit, why isn't this stuff available in the U.S. yet?
